The country covers an area of 581,730 square kilometres (twice that of Great Britain), three quarters of which is technically desert. This is why the flood pains of the famous Okavango Delta are so remarkable. The vast mammal and bird rich Okavango, Moremi and Chobe/Linyanti regions contrast hugely with the usually dry Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and the endless Kalahari Desert.
